Kitchen Coach, Chef Erik Mathes, was born and raised in Queens, New York. Erik knew a traditional career would never be for him. During his childhood, he watched and learned about the business of food through his family’s gourmet provisions company. He spent his teens waiting tables in ethnic restaurants while attending one of NYC’s best high-schools, then went off to Louisiana for college. After graduating from Tulane University with degrees in finance and marketing, Erik left New Orleans just before Hurricane Katrina to settle in South Florida. Not a fan of the office scene, he decided to shun Corporate America to try something crazy – Culinary school!
Before, during, and after obtaining a culinary arts degree from Le Cordon Bleu in Miami, Chef Erik worked in restaurants of varying types across New York City, New Orleans, and South Florida, including three years at the Asian-Fusion powerhouse, China Grill, in Fort Lauderdale. Feeling stifled by the hierarchy within restaurant kitchens, Erik broke free and started the personal & private chef service, Kitchen Coach FL, LLC in 2010. Continue reading →
