Uncorked A-Z: In 2010, the Circle of Wise Women created a signature event with the goal of raising up to $120,000/00 annually for Junior Achievement of South Florida. Using the education platform from JASF, combined with the 60,000 square foot facility known as JA World Huizenga Center, JA World Uncorked was born.

Starting a generous donation from Circle member Lorraine Thomas, founding Grand Cru sponsor, JA World Uncorked has become a cornerstone JA fundraising event. Serving as a catalyst, it has enabled the Circle of Wise Women to raise over $2.5 million dollars to date for Junior Achievement of South Florida’s educational programs and Summer Camp. Publix Apron’s Cooking School

Wes_Bonner_339-001Pubix Aprons Cooking School and Catering returns to JA World Uncorked for their fourth year as our Jeroboam Cooking School Sponsor. Chef Wes Bonner, our Chef Chair for the past two years coordinates the Uncorked culinary experience. Chef Wes and his team also hosts the Circle of Wise Women’s annual cooking school dinner that kicks off Uncorked each September.

Wes graduated summa cum laude from Johnson and Wales University in North Miami and was a member of the silver key honor society. He has more than nine years in the culinary field through various restaurants and the hotel industry. Upon graduating Johnson and Wales in 2002, Wes was first employed with the Ritz Carlton Coconut Grove, a five-star, five-diamond establishment. A year later he chose to move overseas and expand his experience with additional education in the pastry arts through Thames Valley University in London. While living in London, Wes joined the staff of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Hyde Park, and worked in the One Michelin Star restaurant, Le Foliage. After completing school and chocolate courses he returned stateside where he enjoyed developing various skills through restaurants and hotels, including the five-star, five-diamond Four Seasons Resort on Palm Beach.

WesDianaIn early 2009 Wes joined the Publix Apron’s program while pursing an education degree that would better support him in his various teaching roles. His passion for the culinary arts combined with his love for teaching paved the way for his success within the Publix Apron’s program. He has a strong and contagious desire for others to enjoy learning how to have fun in the kitchen.

Whether you’re an accomplished cook or a brand-new beginner, Apron’s Cooking School can help you improve your skills and enjoy your time in the kitchen. At our schools, we offer a wide array of classes covering every sort of cuisine and technique, taught by accomplished professionals.

  • Celebrity Chef, featuring cooking personalities from around the nation.
  • Talk of the Town, taught by area restaurant chefs who have made a name for themselves.
  • Pairing Topics, which explore beers and wines, and how to enjoy them with good food.
  • Cooking Techniques, where you can improve your skills, whatever they may be.
  • Special Topics include everything from appetizers to woks.
  • Kid’s Topics are geared for children aged 8-12.
  • Teen’s Topics are for aspiring cooks from 13-18.

Premiering His Cause

The culinary showcase, presented by Premier Beverage and hosted by chairs Bob and Susan Drinon and Renée Korbel Quinn with Junior Achievement’s Circle of Wise Women, will give guests a chance to mingle with some of South Florida’s top chefs, experience their culinary creations and support local education through Junior Achievement South Florida.

Drinon, president and CEO of Premier Beverage Company, believes that Uncorked is an integral fundraiser for Junior Achievement and a great way for the organization to raise awareness about the services they provide to the community’s children. Continue reading
