The Culinary Team introduced a new experience to JA World Uncorked! 2014 thanks to our partners at Brown-Forman and Korbel. Our culinary competition at Uncorked! II was such a success, we brought it back bigger and better! Chef Director Jack Kane at the Culinary School at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and his culinary co-chair Renée K. Quinn created a student competition that was conducted in the fall semester with three student finalists selected in January 2014. The contest challenged students to pair a unique dessert with our sponsor Korbel California Champagne’s Brut or Sweet Rosé.
The winning dessert was announced the evening of the event and students awarded their Scholarships! Congratulations to 1st Place winner Emily Anna Darville, who presented a Chocolate jasmine tea trifle cake with raspberry champagne sauce, peppercorn tuile. Finalists: 2nd Place – Ana Buendia, presented a Layered pecan flan whipped cream with strawberry sauce and candied strawberry. 3rd Place – Rollyn R. Angela Rosas, presented Asian poached pears, poached port wine sour cherries, served with coconut and lemon macarons. Our Paparazzi Partner, Gold Coast Fort Lauderdale Daily announced the results!
In 2009, the Circle of Wise Women created a signature event with the goal of raising $100,000 annually for Junior Achievement of South Florida. Using the education platform from JASFL, combined with the 60,000 square foot facility known as JA World Huizenga Center, JA World Uncorked! was born. Starting with a team of five women and a generous donation from Lorraine Thomas, founding member/Grand Cru sponsor, JA World Uncorked! has become a cornerstone JA fundraising event. Serving as a catalyst, it has enabled the Circle of Wise Women to raise over $1,900,000.00 for JA South Florida.
For our fourth annual event, Premier Beverage joined JA’s top fundraiser as Presenting Sponsor. Circle of Wise Women event co-chairs Rose Faraone and Lacey Brisson signed on to lead the Circle with sponsorships, auction and ticket sales. Founding Circle member Renée Korbel Quinn, Uncorked! strategist, co-chaired the culinary experience with Chef Director John “Jack” Kanefrom the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. In May, 2013, they created a Culinary Leadership Team to enhance and expand the successful experience. Read more about the team here.
Success! We sold out the event and hosted more than 800 guests throughout the evening exceeding our goal by netting $151,185.64 for the educational programs at Junior Achievement of South Florida.
