Bakery Competition

The Cotton Club Bakery Competition at JA World Uncorked! was presented by Go Riverwalk Magazine and sponsored by Circle of Wise Women Founding Member, Diâne Johnson & the A.D. Johnson Foundation

Cotton Club Bakery PosterArt Institute of Fort Lauderdale‘s culinary students, under the guidance of Chef Director Jack Kane, will compete for a coveted scholarship in the Cotton Club Bakery Competition presented by Go Riverwalk Magazine.

This competition is comprised of Chocolates and Petit Fours. The competition will test the skills of working with various confection mediums to achieve originality, creativeness and artistic ability of the student chef competitor overseen by Chef Director Jack Kane.

Circle of Wise Women Cotton Club Fun

Instructors Chef Peter Babcock and Chef Andrew Lyman selected seven student applications (each, a “Semi-Finalist”) to participate in the cook-off competition on Friday, December 9, 2011, at International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.

Announcing the Decadent Desserts: Rum Runner Tart with a Chocolate Sidecar Capone’s Valentine & Club De Luxe  Little Turtles & Banana Pie Over the Top Cheesecake & Code “0″ Truffles Al Capone’s Pineapple Underground Vaults & Smuggled Jamaican Rum Barrels

Scholarships totaling $2250 were awarded the evening of the JA World Uncorked! event with bites of all five entries served in our dessert area.

  • First place $1,000 was awarded to Christopher Fread’s Over the Top Cheesecake & Code “0″ Truffles
  • Second place $500 was awarded to Nicole Hanak’s Rum Runner Tart with a Chocolate Sidecar
  • Each Finalist received a $250 scholarship and the two semi-finalists, Lauren Teperman and Michelle Gay, will have a chance to participate in a Culinary Evening Auction Experience!
